in-person and virtual counseling for
Individuals, Couples, and Families
I have a variety of specialties and passions in my counseling practice. Read below about some of them, and reach out to me if you don’t see what you need on this list. I may be able to provide it for you or provide you with referrals to therapists who can. I am here to help!
intimate relationships therapy
I work with couples and polyamorous partners to help them reconnect and work through the difficulties that are making them feel disconnected. Oftentimes an attachment perspective is needed to repair hurts and learn to love, trust, and rely on each other again.
I enjoy getting all (or some) of the family members together into the therapy room to address issues. Whether it is a family of 3 or a family of 7+, I will help you change how you engage with one another and increase the feelings of peace and calm at home together.
body trust and disordered eating
We are in a culture where we are saturated with obsession with food, looks, weight, and diet. This results for many in a distrust and dislike of our bodies, and an unhealthy, chaotic relationship with food. I will help you explore the role that dieting, food, and weight have played in your life and help you make mindset and behavioral changes to be at peace with food and your body.
If you or a loved one is questioning or identifying as queer, I am a great fit for helping you through that process. Whether you are in a queer relationship and want a counselor you can feel safe with, or you have a child questioning their gender or sexuality and don’t know how to handle it, I am skilled at meeting you where you are at and being an expert voice to help you during this time.
spiritual/religious counseling
The first six years of my career were spent working for a Christian-based counseling group. I am able to provide Christian-based counseling if you prefer, and am also able to explore your spirituality and thoughts about God if you want that to be a part of your counseling journey. I will respect your beliefs and will provide a safe place for you.
I have met with many individuals who have experienced church or religious trauma in their lives. This can have a wide-ranging impact, from self-esteem to relational issues. I am passionate about helping people heal from this unique type of trauma.
Sex, romance, and intimacy can be difficult to navigate for anyone. I take a sex-positive approach that focuses on helping you discover and access what you want your ideal sex life to look like. You can rest assured I am very comfortable talking about sex with clients and am committed to providing a comfortable, client-led environment.
When our romantic partner or spouse betrays our trust by stepping out on the relationship, this can be traumatic and highly impactful. I am here to help you work through the grief and pain and make a plan for your next steps.
Sometimes people are looking for help getting through life’s transitions. Changing jobs, getting married, having babies, and on and on. Life transitions are hard, and there is no shame in needing some help to move through these changes and come out the other side thriving and happy.
Depression and anxiety are common mental health issues and there is no shame in seeking help for your symptoms. I will work with you to identify if your depression and/or anxiety are situational-based or neurobiological-based, and then we will establish an appropriate plan to help you get back to feeling like yourself.
Explore
Oftentimes clients come to me unsure of exactly what they want out of therapy, they just know they want change. I can help you explore what is working and what isn’t working in your life and relationships and set some goals for change.
Build
Therapy is about building something new—a new you, a new relationship, a new way of engaging with yourself and with the world around you.
Practice
You will learn new skills and new ways of interacting with yourself and others, and I will help you practice these new skills until they become second nature.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I just want counseling for myself individually?
That’s more than fine, I might still be a great counselor for you! Even though I am trained in marriage and family therapy, I apply my counseling skills to working with just individuals all the time. Often, my relational-based training helps me help you better in understanding and reaching your counseling goals. We are all relational people living in community, as spouses, parents, sons, daughters, friends, lovers, etc. It is important that you have a therapist who doesn’t lose sight of that even when it is just you in the counseling room.
What does “attachment-based” mean?
Such a great question! Attachment-based means that I take into consideration the ways that your bonds with others affects you. Sometimes, we are not bonded with others in ways that feel good, healthy, or safe (like with a parent or partner). I can help you identify ways you are not happy with your relationships or yourself (which is a type of relationship, too!) and how that might be affecting your presenting issue (like depression, anxiety, stress, etc).
What if I don’t see my specific issue listed above?
Have no fear! Fill out the contact form (“book a session” link) or call me at 309-306-2699. We can discuss your specific therapy needs to see if I might still be a good fit for you. I also can provide you with referrals to other therapists for your specific therapy needs. The process of searching for a counselor can be overwhelming, and I can help get you in touch with someone who may be able to meet your needs.
What insurances does RLC take?
Rose is in network with BCBS, United Healthcare (UHC) / Optum, and Aetna. RLC will bill your insurance for appointments. You will be responsible for any fees assigned to you by your insurance company due to a deductible, copay, or coinsurance. If you are out-of-network, the 50 - minute standard session fee is $150 and Rose can provide you with a superbill to bill your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
